1/1000 アンドロメダ 改 DX 四連装波動砲 1/1000 SPACE BATTLESHIP ANDROMEDA DX (QUADRUPLE WAVE MOTION CANNONS)

    I   just added the Bandai official Quad Wave Motion Cannon part to the older 1/1000 Andromeda model (AAAA-01-2202). I have not started on making the Andromeda DX model yet (still haven't decided on the colour scheme) The Andromeda DX model kit allows you to make one of the different variants of the Andromeda class ships (ZZZZ-0001, AAA-1, AAA-2 ALDEBARAN, AAA-4 ACHILLES, ANDROMEDA BLACK, CCC-01 NEU BALGRAY).

     The light effect become purple because the Bandai Quad Wave Motion Cannon part is not a red transparent part but an "ocean gray" non-transparent part. I like the purple light effect.

    The mechanical features on the self-made part are very close to the Bandai official Quad Wave Motion Cannon part, except in the scale of the mechanical features and the thickness of the energy splitters. The energy splitters are thicker and the mechanical details on the self-made part are larger than those on Bandai's part but I am surprised that I implemented the mechanical features correctly, it was a guess.

     It really looks like there are four energy beams because of the energy splitter.





     As I mentioned , I just place the Bandai Quad Wave Motion cannon part into the older 1/1000 Andromeda , I still have to start on the new Andromeda model (ZZZ-0001YF-2203), the only differences are the colour scheme and the decals.

     I still have to decide if I want to paint the model using the Yamato 2202 colour scheme or keep the original Andromeda colour shceme.
    
     This is the official Andromeda kai ( ZZZ-0001YF-2203) colour scheme. I am not sure I like the Yamato colour scheme on Andromeda.

 U.N.C.F. AAA-0001-2202 DX does not exist in the anime but I follow the design of Andromeda DX (ZZZ-0001YF-2203) Quadruple Wave Motion Canons and made the "beam splitters" for the Quadruple Wave Motion Canons. I didn't copy the design exactly , there is a cresant-shaped cut-out at the back of the "beam splitters" according to the photos I have seen from the upcoming 1/1000 Andromeda DX model.

 The Andromeda DX  (ZZZ-0001YF-2203) has a navy blue / red colour scheme similar to Yamato 2202, I personally don't think that colour scheme work on Andromeda. I know there are some other minor differences between AAA-0001-2202 and ZZZ-0001YF-2203 , such as the ship serial number and other decals around the ships, but the main physical difference is the Quadruple Wave Motion Canons. Andomeda DX is assigned ZZZ-0001YF-2203, ZZZ probably signfies the last ship of its class (Andromeda class) and 2203 signifies the year? Not sure what YF stands for.

 The "beam splitters" are more than just two pieces of plastic , some mechanical designs are incorporated (just like in the upcoming 1/1000 Andromeda DX model) and they are detachable , so that the Andromeda can return to her non DX version.

I still don't know if  Andromeda DX's Wave Motion Cannon in Space Battleship Yamato 2202 vol. 6 is like the Dreadnought class battleship, an energy splitter or it is a true Quadruple Wave Motion Cannon!?

  He applied the 'Yamato-colour scheme"  to the 1/1000 Andromeda and used the decals from 1/1000 Andromeda Antares. Personally , I don't think the "Yamato color scheme" work on Andromeda.

    I guess the modeller made some medifications to the 1/1000 Andromeda. The third Wave Motion Cannon LEDs can be driven by the same signals as the other two Wave Motion Canon LEDs (just tap the anode and cathode terminals of the LED to the anode and cathode of the other LEDs of the Wave Motion Canon). I am sure the LED driver will be able to provide current to the third LED. This is a true tri Wave Motion Canon design, not using some beam splitters.



   This would be a better design for Quaduple Wave Motion Cannon.

I usually take my timein making models and finally finished this one after more than one month (consider it fast by my standard).

The model is about 444 mm (engine to the nose of Andromeda) . This is in 1/1000 but I wish it was like the old version , in 1/700, it would be way bigger.


My camera is screwed , photos came with a blue line ~_~


















Both are 1/1000 .









































I did not seal up the panels or gaps between parts in the kit because I want to be able to exchange parts (there are these four cannon-like parts in the front of the ship. You can remove those and replace them with regular panels) and able to take the ship apart to remove the LED unit which keeps the ship attached to the display stand. Some times I like to hold the ship in my hand without the stand ...............and fly it around. YES, I am childish! :P

I didn't paint the clear red parts in case I want to add lights later on. I only painted black lines for those parts (can't see them in this lighting condition).

































Wish the kit came with more LEDs without kit modifications.















Painting of these Cosmo Tigers caused eye strain. I am lucky that my eyes are not crossed after painiting these miniature Tigers!
