1/4000  MACROSS SDF-1 ATTACK MODE , MOVIE VERSION , PLASTIC KIT, HASEGAWA, 6,696円(JAPAN SALE TAX INCLUDED)

This is the upcoming Macross SDF-1 from Hasegawa.

At first,  I was excited , the only thing I like about the Macross series . I like SDF-1 , SDF-2 and Megaroad designs much more than those Battle 7 styled ones (A giant hand holding a cannon gun??). Not much a fan of a giant carrier instead of a giant fortress ship.

Anyway, I was disappointed after seeing the promotional photos of this new kit.

Firstly, the legs are too short.

This is a 1/4000 SDF-1 resin kit from a long time ago. Although resin kits are usually more expensive than toys or plastic models  but they are usually better sculpted and much more proportional. They also have more surface details (even compared with the Yamato 1/2000 and 1/3000 toys, relatively to their sizes )

Secondly, some of the designs are wrong. For example , the main cannons.

Also, the beam cannons on the shoulders are a bit too short.

I realise that the cannons near the bottom of the legs are pointing upwards as opposed to pointing downwards as in the original design, but the instruction in this resin kit instructs that  the cannons should be assembled  upwards and they wouldn't fit if they are pointing downwards. Perhaps the resin cast has made a mistake? All other photos of the same resin kits done by other modellers have the cannons pointing upwards also, so the Hasegawa kit has at least one feature casted correctly.

Two other modellers of this same resin kit , assembled the leg cannons pointing upwards also.

Someone can grab the Macross mecha reference book and easily verify that there are many design inconsistencies in this kit with the official designs

The 1/4000 SDF-1 Fortress ship , movie version from Hasegawa  is a better one than its Attack Mode counterpart.

The following resit kit photos look shorter than the actual kit is. Something wrong with the aspect ratio (probably my lousy photography).

The antennae aren't too sharp.

The shoulder propulsions are also incorrect.

The exhaust panels on ARM 01 an 02 should be wider . SDF-1 upper arms attachments to the ARM 01 and 02 occupy half of the panel areas,  which is wrong.

The waist design is again incorrect, as well as the back of the upper thighs.

I don't know why these photos look a bit shorter than it actually is. Maybe my lousy photography.

A Macross City model I made a long time ago.....

I doubt very much I still have the enthusiasm for modelling any more........

I wonder if some companies will release a SDF-2 or Megaroad. I have seen some fan-made ones but not from any companies.

They should really consult the Macross Mech reference before making a kit, especially for Megaroad.

I do not know why some Japanese publications listing Megaroad as only 1.7 km long which is incorrect by just looking at this picture. 1.7 km is more like for SDF-2 .

The width of Megaroad is already longer than SDF-1's length,  at least 2.5 times longer, so the length of Megaroad must be much longer than that , otherwise Megaroad will look like a square block instead of a ship.

There are also some info. online  listing Megaroad as 5.2 km which is more logical. Just judging from the city in front of the ship, it is a much more crowded and much larger city than the long busy street in SDF-1.

Also, from this picture. It looks like the Zentradi command ship (Nupetiet Vergnitzs, don't ask me how to pronounce it ) is near by the Megaroad and it is 4 km long , the Megaroad looks at least as long , so it can't be just 1.7 km long.

Someone can drop me a line to tell me why I am wrong.
