DAVID LETTERMAN FINAL SHOW

I don't watch a lot of late night TV programmes but always tune in to the final shows. They are usually the farewell shows of someone's very long career, so worth the time.

Start of the final show.

It was on 20th May, 2015 , the final show of Late Show with David Letterman was broadcast. I have to admit I do not often watch his show and prefer Jay Leno's jokes more, not that I dislike his but just not much into sarcastic type of jokes (Dave is "nicer" since after his heart quintuple bypass surgery) ; at times, his guests were bombarded with embarrassing questions which was difficult to watch at times; but still, being on late night TV for 33 years is a great achievement and I thought Dave's final show was better than Jay's . Dave kept his final goodbye simple and straight to the point without the usual weeping. I particularly enjoy his thanks to his family : wife Regina and his 11 years old son Harry. This is the best moment in the final show.

Simple and touching words:

“Thank you for being my family, I love you both and really, nothing else matters, does it?”

Judging from how Dave looked at his son when he expressed his thanks, I think Harry is the major part of the reasons why Dave chooses to retire now. The only son he has. Dave is 67 and his son is 11 year old , I guess he doesn't want his son not to have a father at his crucial age. I remember Carson died only 10 years after retirement , so this is the right time for Dave to retire so that he has more time with his son.

I thought it was nice to have all but one surviving U.S. Presidents (except Jimmy Carter who is ill at this time) to open the final show.

Final show's opening monologue:

Dave's Final Top 10 list presented by 10 guests:

What's up with Jim Carey's long white beard?? Santa?? Seinfeld really lost a lot of hair.

I didn't think "Seinfeld" final episode was that disappointing, I thought it was just surprising that the main characters all went to jail.

I wish Jay had come to the show. I can never understand the rivalry and grudge between them. At the end of the day, everyone has to retire, does it matter who got which show?? Dave actually got a much higher salary than Jay despite the fact that Jay got the Tonight Show with higher rating.

Dave's Goodbye:

At 8:27 (the best moment in the show)

“Thank you for being my family, I love you both and really, nothing else matters, does it?”

A few other late night talk show hosts also expressed their thanks to Dave for helping or influencing their career : Jimmy Fallon , Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O'Brien.

Jimmy Kimmel thanks Dave :

Conan O Brien thanks Dave :

Conan asks his audience to switch channel and watch Dave's final show instead.

The show ended with some fireworks .

Well, Mr. Letterman , enjoy your retirement with your son Harry. Best Wishes!
