Halloween, from " All Hallows Even" , is an ancient Celtic festival called Samhain. It was originally the day for the ancient Pagans to gather their stocks and supplies for the Winter. There was often bon fire and slaughtering of live stocks. Costumes and masks were worn for the festival.
The Pumpkin was originally called Jack O Lantern whose origin was from a story about a farmer named Stingy jack. He was greedy and loved the alcohol. He tricked the devil into climbing a tree and trapped the devil at the tree by carving the Cross on the tree. The devil cursed him to wander the land at night forever with a single candle in a turnip.
Halloween is celebrated in North America and some South American countries. It is also celebrated in Japan but it is because it is an American culture. Japanese love anything American for some reasons.
