1970年代を中心にマンガやアニメが人気を集めた「UFOロボ グレンダイザー」の新プロジェクト「プロジェクトG」のイベントがこのほど、サウジアラビアの首都リアドで開催された。同プロジェクトを日本と共同制作するサウジアラビアのマンガプロダクションズ最高経営責任者のブカーリ・イサムさんは「グレンダイザーはサウジや欧州ではとても人気で、いまだに多くのファンを持っている大人気のコンテンツ。グレンダイザーのコンテンツが再び動き出すこのプロジェクトにサウジをはじめ世界が熱狂しています。そんなコンテンツにマンガプロダクションズがビジネスパートナーとして協力することができ本当にうれしいです。今から完成が楽しみでなりません」と話している。
新プロジェクトは、原作者の永井豪さんが製作総指揮を務める「UFOロボ グレンダイザー」の新たなコンテンツが制作され、2023年に“解禁”される。マンガが連載を開始した1975年から約48年の時を超えて伝説のロボットが現代によみがえる。
「UFOロボ グレンダイザー」は、永井さんの「マジンガーZ」「グレートマジンガー」に続くマジンガーシリーズの第3弾。異星人のデューク・フリードが巨大ロボットのグレンダイザーを駆り、迫り来る悪と戦う姿を描いた。「テレビマガジン」（講談社）で1975～76年に連載され、テレビアニメが1975～77年に放送された。
アニメは全74話の長期放送ながら平均視聴率20％超を記録し、欧州、中東、南米など世界でも人気を集めた。フランスでは、放送当時、視聴率が“100％”を記録し、「『グレンダイザー』の放送日には街から人が消えた」ともいわれている。
新プロジェクト始動を記念し、作中に登場するマシン・円盤獣を募集する「円盤獣コンテスト」が実施される。優勝者には、賞金100万円が贈られるほか、円盤獣が作品に登場する。特設サイトで応募を受け付けている。

The project is a collaboration between Japan and Saudi Arabia's Manga Productions whose CEO Essam Bukhary has commented that Grendizer is very popular and has many fans in Saudi Arabia and Europe. He is very enthusiatic about the project and very pleased to be able to cooperate Manga Productions as the business partner for such content and is looking forward to complete the project. Grendizer's creator Nagai Gou will be the production director. Details will be revealed in 2023.

To commemorate the new project event, there will be a Saucer Beast contest . The winner will receive 1 million yens and the work will appear in the new project.
