SOLAR ECLIPSE 2017

For those who didn't take time off from work or didn't have the chance to observe the total solar eclipse, here are some photos captured from live broadcast videos.

Notice the sunspots. These are located at the photosphere layer (below chromosphere) of the sun. These are regions with lower temperature caused by concentrations of magnetic flux that inhibits convection (heat transfer in liquid or gas). These spots are temporary, lasting from a few days to a few months. Sunspots usually appear in pairs of opposite magnetic polarity. They change size as they move across the surface of the sun.









The followings are taken by H-ALPHA (Hydrogen Alpha) camera.

H-ALPHA is one of the six spectral lines in the Balmer series which is one of the six series that describes the spectral line emission of the hydrogen atom. H-ALPHA is the red visible spectral line with a wavelength of 656.28nm.

A hydrogen atom has 1 electron orbiting the nucleus . There are three "stationary orbits" in which the electron can orbit the nucleus stably. When the electron moves from the outermost third orbit  to the second (closer to nucleus) orbit , it loses energy and results in the emission of a photon (light particle) with wavelength  of 656.28nm.

About 75% of the sun is hydrogen and H-Alpha camera is used to capture the emission of above mentioned photons from the hydrogen in Chromophere layer of the sun. Chromophere is the second layer of the sun.

The images should be in red since H-ALPHA is a red visible light, I don't know why the images are in white, they processed the images on-the-fly or used some filters??

The human race feels so powerful , has classified themselves as intelligent and spends most of the time playing domination on each other or fighting each other, only to realise how powerless , insignificant and minute they are when they look at the sky and universe above ............
