SIR ROGER MOORE DIES AT THE AGE OF 89

Best remembered as James Bond , Sir Roger Moore died in Switzerland at the age of 89. His passing was announced on 23 rd May, 2017. Sir Moore had been suffering from cancer and type 2 diabetes.

He is my James Bond and I enjoyed his interpretation of the character , especially like his injection of sarcastic humour in James Bond's various situations and of course , his English genteel accent. He did a total of 7 James Bond movies , the most among James Bond actors:

Live and Let Die (1973)
The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
Moonraker (1979)
For Your Eyes Only (1981)
Octopussy (1983)
A View to a Kill (1985)

Surprisingly , he was still acting in 2016 , The Saint as Jasper. He was also famous for the 1962 - 1969 TV series the Saint as Simon Templar. Besides James Bond, my other favourite movie of Sir Moore is The Cannonball Run (1981).

He was knighted in 2003 for his humanitarian work with UNICEF which he considered as his greatest achievement. He had been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 1991. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) on 9 th March, 1999 and Knight Commander of the British Empire (KBE) on 14 th June, 2003. In 2008, he was appointed a Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government. He was awarded a honorary doctorate from the University of Hertfordshire for his works in films and the TV industry for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife Kristina (Tholstrup) and three children: Deborah , Geoffrey and Christian.
